Captivating Creatures come to Ambergate

On Thursday 27th June 2024 Captivating Creatures Ltd brought their amazing creatures into school. All of their animals are loved pets and are handled regularly by themselves and children to ensure they are friendly and are accustomed to human interaction.

Pupils from across the whole of school were randomly chosen to attend one of the hour-long sessions where they were introduced to animals from around the world. They were quite surprised at how fast the Tortoise moved, taken aback by the hairless guinea pig and freaked a little by the stick insects and the millipede.

Did you know all Scorpions glow in the dark?? Our pupils do now after been shown with a UV torch shinning on Nipper the Scorpion!

Then came the corn snake and Royal Python. Pupils faced their fears and allowed the corn snake to be placed on their shoulders and a few held the python.

Next to be shown was Boris the Tarantula who gave a very good head massage. Pupil’s feelings changed from “keep that well away!” to then having it on their head and then supporting others to have it on theirs. It was great to see confidence grow throughout the session.

A favourite of most of the pupils was the lively Chinchilla who had very soft fur and a long fluffy tail but some of the pupils preferred the large African snails who were quite slimy.

This was an incredible experience and a huge thank you goes to FOSA for making this possible.
