Children of Courage Awards 2024
The 13th Annual Children of Courage Awards was held on Wednesday 6th March 2024 at Walton Academy, hosted by Rotary Club of Grantham Kesteven.
Oliver Hunt proudly represented GANF – Sandon Campus. He attended the ceremony with his mum, nan and great grandad. Class teacher Chloe Golland and Teaching Assistant Jasmine McKechnie also attended the event with Oliver.
After arrivals and a meet and greet, Oliver enjoyed a lunch with his family and school staff to celebrate. Oliver was very deserving of this award and was nominated as he continues to demonstrate resilience in all aspects of his life. Oliver has overcome many hurdles throughout his childhood and is a commendable young boy who puts others before himself. He is a young carer at home and is always there for his family and friends. Oliver continues to show a can-do attitude towards challenges and changes in his life. His family and school staff are extremely proud of the achievements Oliver has made both in and out of school.
Oliver collected his award and shared his achievements with his family. He enjoyed receiving gifts from the Mayor of Grantham.
From GANF – Ambergate Campus, Finlay was nominated for a Child of Courage Award due to his resilience following the sad passing of his father. Not only did Finlay have to cope with this major incident in his life but also moving back from the USA, where the family had been living.
Finlay is a remarkable, funny, kind and caring 15 year old young man who at the age of 3 had a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. His maturity within his home life and the class has grown and he now knows he has his safe space at school. Finlay struggles at times with communication however he is beginning to trust some adults within school who now have the privilege of Finlay engaging in one or two words with them, most noticeably asking for milk at lunch time.
Finlay has an amazing sense of humour and when he trusts you… you are at the receiving end of this… changing interactive white board colours, deleting work on the board… all within the blink of an eye!
Finlay was amazing at the ceremony, he arrived to an unknown place with people he did not know and after a few minutes he became able to enjoy the evening where he joined in a group photo with other winners which was amazing and such a big step and achievement for him.
Both mum and class teacher Mrs Bond were incredibly proud of Finlay and how he coped with the evening to show others who he really is.
Congratulations to all of this year’s winners!
